As a witness to the birth and growth of the Academy since the Working Party under Keith Halnan in 1986, I am truly proud to be able to join in our 25th anniversary celebrations in 2018.
The Academy is unique in the world, being the sole institution with statutory power to organize, assess and accredit all medical post-internship training in Hong Kong, and to implement effective continuous professional development.
On this joyous occasion, we gratefully remember the people who played indispensable roles in the history of our development. They represented the government, Jockey Club, various charitable foundations, the medical profession, or individuals who gave their generous assistance.
The Father of the Academy, David Todd, is smiling down on us as we celebrate the fruits of his labour 32 years on.
Today the Academy is facing social, political and technological challenges that will surely change the way we practise medicine. While we thank God and all who have contributed for what we have achieved, I pray that we have the wisdom, courage and support especially from our young Fellows to make the necessary changes.
Hearty congratulations to the Council, Colleges and all who work for the Academy to make Hong Kong a centre of excellence for health care!
