Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Celebrates 25 Years of Medical Excellence
Hosted by Prof. LAU Chak-sing, President, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine; and Dr. LAU Chor-chiu, Chairman of the 25thAnniversary Organising Committee, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, the 25th Anniversary Celebration Kick-off and Spring Luncheon with Media marked the beginning of the Academy’s quarter-centenary celebration activities themed around “Medical Excellence for a Healthy Future”. Prof. Sophia CHAN Siu-chee, JP, Secretary for Food and Health attended the ceremony as Guest of Honour.
Prof. LAU shared with media the Academy’s achievements in upholding high standards of medical specialist training, gave an overview of the 25th anniversary celebration events, and offered a glimpse into the Academy’s plans for the years ahead. Council Members of the Academy and representatives of its specialty Colleges also joined the event.
Hong Kong’s organ donation rate is among the lowest in the world and this has become a matter of great concern. At a panel discussion held after the ceremony, leading specialists in different disciplines looked into the matter from different perspectives, discussed the latest developments in organ donation and transplantation in Hong Kong, clarified some common myths and explored ways of encouraging people to support organ donation.
